It was winter and damp showing up in the top floor. Altogether, I was nervous. The old flat roof looked sound, but the guttering didn’t. Scaffold needed … so, as well as a new flat roof and repointing of the chimney stacks, etc., it was a chance to improve Energy Performance with 100mm additional insulation. Four roofing companies invited to tender, Foogle chosen. Their estimate was comparable but, crucially, having met both surveyor and boss, I’d a feeling that doing a job well was important to Foogle. Their original estimate excluded scaffold for which we agreed a budget, they arranged and I paid (no mark-up!). They also looked after the local authority building controls. The job started in a none too pleasant January and I sat back waiting for my contingency budget to be eroded.
