All About Landscapes rebuilt and paved our front steps & path, and built new steps and pathway at the rear of our house into the garden. We are very happy with the front steps and pathway - built nicely and look very smart. He even reworked some bits of the steps after they’d been built when we raised a concern. We are less happy with the overall look and build quality of the rear steps/path, which aren’t what we wanted, though we appreciate him worked with a load of recycled slabs we had to cut our costs. He has assured us they’re structurally sound but the finish is not as expected.

Before you hire a builder
Never pay a large deposit up front — agree a staged payment schedule tied to completed milestones, and hold a small retention until snagging is done.
Get it in writing: an itemised quote with scope, materials, start and finish dates, and how any changes (variations) will be priced.
Be wary of a cash-only price or pressure to start tomorrow — both are red flags for an unaccountable job.
Ask to see a portfolio of completed work like yours, plus recent references you can contact.
