Highlights

"Neil has been nothing but helpful and professional from beginning to end of the work so far. He came highly recommended by three different people and their confidence in him was well founded. He took clear photos of the problem and told me straight away what needed to be done, and what was less urgent right now. The astonishing bit for me was when I had a quote for 10x his price, the day after receiving his quote!!! There are cowboys out there, but Neil is certainly not one of them, so you can book him in good faith. He even helped me to get my Christmas decorations out of the loft!!"

"Second time using Neil's services. He surveyed the day after I reported a roof leak and fixed it the day after that. Neil is friendly and did a high quality job."

"I have used NRG Roofing before, as they were recommended to me. They replaced the worn and leaking valley on my roof. I was very pleased with their work. Neil talked me through everything that needed doing and discussed it all with me. Therefore I had no hesitation in contacting Neil again when my Downpipe became blocked. As before Neil kept in touch with me explaining the problem and what needed doing and the cost and asking my agreement to go ahead with the work. I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to use NRG again and to recommend them to any one who needs a roofing company."

"Architect" is a title protected by law - only people on the official Architects Register (held by ARB) may use it. Confirm they're on it before you commission a design.

Check the Architects Register
Smart checks

Before you hire an architect

Only someone on the Architects Registration Board (ARB) register may legally call themselves an 'architect' in the UK — ask for their ARB number and check it free at arb.org.uk. An 'architectural designer' or 'technologist' is a different, unregistered role (often capable, but not the same protection).
Agree how they charge before any work starts — a percentage of the build cost, a fixed fee, or an hourly rate — and exactly which stages it covers (concept design, planning application, building-regulations drawings, work on site), so there are no surprises later.
Confirm what they will actually handle versus what is excluded — the planning application, the building-control drawings, and whether they will administer the builder's contract on site — and get it, and a portfolio of similar projects, in writing.
Ask to see a portfolio of completed work like yours, plus recent references you can contact.
Check the credentials and registrations that matter for this work — and that they are current.
