Highlights

"We asked Shaun to give us an estimate to repoint and treat the damp ingress on our 100 year old farmhouse. He arrived on time, was very helpful, informative and gave us an insight on the work he would be doing along with an estimate as requested. We had the work done a couple of months later and as before he arrived on time to begin with his crew. The work was scheduled for 8-10 days and was completed to a high standard and one we were very pleased with. All of the guys were really pleasant and loved having our dogs around while working. would happily ask him again if we have other work done"

"We contacted Shaun, looking for a reliable and experienced tradesman for a tricky garden wall repair for a period property in a conservation area. From the initial discussion, visit and quotation, Shaun demonstrated his experience and transparency and gave us confidence to proceed. This a period wall that needed significant repairs and ensuring it was in keeping with the property dating from c. 1880. The repairs needed to be completed with lime mortar and around radius that was also on a slope. Very happy with the results and wall now looking great and restored to it's former character."

Smart checks

Before you hire a builder

Never pay a large deposit up front — agree a staged payment schedule tied to completed milestones, and hold a small retention until snagging is done.
Get it in writing: an itemised quote with scope, materials, start and finish dates, and how any changes (variations) will be priced.
Be wary of a cash-only price or pressure to start tomorrow — both are red flags for an unaccountable job.
Ask to see a portfolio of completed work like yours, plus recent references you can contact.
Check the credentials and registrations that matter for this work — and that they are current.
