Highlights

"I liked Tony's approach to the job, he had a very good can do attitude. His team were very hard working and polite during any communications. Job was completed in good time with no dramas."

AnonymousCheckatrade5.0 rating

"Had a leaky pitched roof which was really bad during heavy rain. They did an initial inspection and found the leak. They came back a few days later and roof was repaired as per the quote within 2-3 hours. Very happy with the work that was carried out."

The lads were friendly enough and quick to answer and turn up. However, the job involved a leak from a hole next to a dormer window. But they were soon showing me a video of one of them lifting up my ridge tiles and dropping them down again. The ridge tiles were not causing me any concerns, but unseating them and dislodging the mortar might. I would have preferred them to ask before doing this. Also they were reluctant to provide a written quote in the expected way. I would warn the innocent to avoid getting rushed into things and always get two more written quotes before going ahead.

"Architect" is a title protected by law - only people on the official Architects Register (held by ARB) may use it. Confirm they're on it before you commission a design.

Check the Architects Register
Smart checks

Before you hire an architect

Only someone on the Architects Registration Board (ARB) register may legally call themselves an 'architect' in the UK — ask for their ARB number and check it free at arb.org.uk. An 'architectural designer' or 'technologist' is a different, unregistered role (often capable, but not the same protection).
Agree how they charge before any work starts — a percentage of the build cost, a fixed fee, or an hourly rate — and exactly which stages it covers (concept design, planning application, building-regulations drawings, work on site), so there are no surprises later.
Confirm what they will actually handle versus what is excluded — the planning application, the building-control drawings, and whether they will administer the builder's contract on site — and get it, and a portfolio of similar projects, in writing.
Ask to see a portfolio of completed work like yours, plus recent references you can contact.
Check the credentials and registrations that matter for this work — and that they are current.
