ABQ Studio is a firm of architects based in East Sussex. The practice was formed in 2002 by Sean Albuquerque and has built a reputation for high quality design and a bespoke service. We work on a wide range of project types from master planning to furniture, and aim to approach each task with the same care and engagement regardless of scale or market sector. The practice has in-house specialist experience of historic building conservation, and has worked on projects from Grade II barns to Scheduled Ancient Monuments. This particular specialism is not seen as a stand-alone service, but is integral to our aim to understand a building or location more fully, with the result that the practice has developed an approach which is sensitive to the nature and surroundings of a place. Many of our projects involve a high degree of detail, and we revel in the opportunity to work closely with specialist consultants, sub-contractors and makers to produce work that displays a high level of craft. This approach is part of a philosophy of human-centred architecture, and it is equally applicable to a item of bespoke furniture, a home renovation, or a commercial scheme. We believe that good architecture is something that responds to its location, and has a care for human qualities and the planet's resources, while the process of bringing a project to realisation is about being keenly focused on budget and timescale. There is no common visual theme to our work and our aim is for our designs to be thoroughly contemporary though not adhering to any individual architectural style. Though our work is centred on the south east of England we have experience throughout the country and abroad, with projects completed in Europe, Africa and North America.
