"Great experience with L Nichol Joinery giving our staircase a much needed renovation. From the first email reaching out for a quote, he was prompt and polite and was able to book us in quickly. The two gents who worked on behalf of him were a credit to Liam for the work carried out, arrived on time each day and were respectful and hardworking. We are very pleased with the result and have already passed Liam’s contact details onto family and friends."

Never pay a large deposit up front — agree a staged payment schedule tied to completed milestones, and hold a small retention until snagging is done.
Get it in writing: an itemised quote with scope, materials, start and finish dates, and how any changes (variations) will be priced.
