Highlights

"J1 were referred to us, so we had Jack come round to fit double doors in an open space between our living & dining room. He was friendly, quick, clean and tidy, efficient and punctual whilst keeping me updated with timings, which was much appreciated as it helped plan around my work calls etc. Jack just popped round today as the doors weren't latching by a tiny amount after we'd painted them and they'd been hung for 3 weeks... he fixed the issue really quickly for us. Would absolutely recommend J1 and use them again ourselves next time we need some work doing."

"Jack removed old skirting boards and replaced with new boards in two of our bedrooms. He arrived on time, was very courteous and carried out the work quickly and efficiently with minimal disruption, noise and mess. We would definitely recommend him and hope to have him return for another project."

Smart checks

Before you hire a builder

Never pay a large deposit up front — agree a staged payment schedule tied to completed milestones, and hold a small retention until snagging is done.
Get it in writing: an itemised quote with scope, materials, start and finish dates, and how any changes (variations) will be priced.
Be wary of a cash-only price or pressure to start tomorrow — both are red flags for an unaccountable job.
Ask to see a portfolio of completed work like yours, plus recent references you can contact.
Check the credentials and registrations that matter for this work — and that they are current.
