Highlights

"The flat roof over the bay area of my house was leaking into our second-floor bedroom, so I contacted R Wood Roofing for help. Nick and his team did an excellent job from start to finish. Their quotation and communication were clear and detailed, explaining exactly what work would be carried out. During the job, the team worked patiently and professionally, even though the repair took considerable time. I truly appreciate the quality of their workmanship and have no hesitation in highly recommending R Wood Roofing."

"One section of our fascia board came down, and Nick did a brilliant job fixing it. He gave a fair quote, communicated clearly, and carried out the work to a high standard. He came with his team and got everything sorted efficiently. Everything was left neat and tidy. It’s hard to find tradesmen this reliable — I wouldn’t hesitate to use him again."

"Nick was able to come out on such short notice, find out what the problem was and attend to it right away. Very grateful for this as I was quoted over double of what Nick charged me, over the moon."

"Architect" is a title protected by law - only people on the official Architects Register (held by ARB) may use it. Confirm they're on it before you commission a design.

Check the Architects Register
Smart checks

Before you hire an architect

Only someone on the Architects Registration Board (ARB) register may legally call themselves an 'architect' in the UK — ask for their ARB number and check it free at arb.org.uk. An 'architectural designer' or 'technologist' is a different, unregistered role (often capable, but not the same protection).
Agree how they charge before any work starts — a percentage of the build cost, a fixed fee, or an hourly rate — and exactly which stages it covers (concept design, planning application, building-regulations drawings, work on site), so there are no surprises later.
Confirm what they will actually handle versus what is excluded — the planning application, the building-control drawings, and whether they will administer the builder's contract on site — and get it, and a portfolio of similar projects, in writing.
Ask to see a portfolio of completed work like yours, plus recent references you can contact.
Check the credentials and registrations that matter for this work — and that they are current.
