Throughout construction Richard dealt with every aspect such as ordering skips, purchasing additional equipment and made suggestions which were always readily accepted. He has extensive contacts in the trade and could always be relied upon to get the best deal. I was so impressed with him that I asked him to carry out another project replacing the roof on an outbuilding. Again this job was done in an excellent manner."

Never pay a large deposit up front — agree a staged payment schedule tied to completed milestones, and hold a small retention until snagging is done.
Get it in writing: an itemised quote with scope, materials, start and finish dates, and how any changes (variations) will be priced.
