Highlights

"Sam fitted a new pump to my underfloor central heating and serviced my boiler. I'm very happy with the work he did, the price was excellent and Sam's just a great guy, polite and helpful and you can tell he cares about doing a job right. He checked up afterwards to make sure I was happy with everything too. I'd recommend him to anyone and I'll definitely be using him in the future."

"After Britsih Gas tried telling me I needed a new boiler (£3,000), somone recommended Sam Hancock to me. He informed me all i needed was a new pump (£300). Needless to say, he took over the servicing of my central heating (half the price of British gas and more competently done). When Sam told me I needed a new boiler six years later (£1,800, plus new thermostats and piping along the side of the house), only one person was going to get the job. Sam doesn't do work that doesn't need doing, never over charges, and thoroughly checks all work. No one else gets to work on my central heating."

"Sam was extremely friendly when I called him for my annual gas boiler check. Sam was able to come out to my house a week after I called which was great. Sam and his colleague discovered that I had a gas leak and we arranged the following week to fit some new pipes. Sam provided me with a quote that I accepted and Sam and his colleague turned up on time to do the repairs (of which involved accessing a really difficult part under my kitchen cupboards). Upon finishing, the men cleaned the areas they had worked (brilliant). I would thoroughly recommended Sam for all your 'gas' checks and needs."

Smart checks

Before you hire a gas engineer

By law, anyone working on your gas appliances must be on the Gas Safe Register — ask to see their Gas Safe ID card and check the licence number at gassaferegister.co.uk before they start.
Never let an unregistered person touch your gas: unsafe gas work risks carbon monoxide poisoning, fire and explosion, and is a criminal offence.
For a boiler or appliance install, get the work and price in writing and keep the Gas Safe / Building Regulations certificate they are required to give you.
Confirm they cover your area and can actually come out in your timeframe before anything else.
Read recent reviews for reliability and turning up on time — not only the quality of the work.
