Simon is a true damp expert
If you've noticed damp in your property, I'd definitely suggest speaking to Simon before committing to any work. We had two damp-proofing companies come out to inspect our house and neither correctly identified the cause of the problem. Both recommended installing a damp proof course in our basement, with quotes ranging from £5,000 to £10,000. It turned out the real issue was drainage problems, a blocked pipe and some leaking pipework were allowing water to get underneath the floorboards. The damp proof course they suggested wouldn't have solved anything, and our floorboards would have continued to deteriorate. Simon took a very thorough and methodical approach and was able to identify the source quite quickly. He didn't jump to conclusions or try to sell us a particular solution. He simply investigated the issue, explained what he was finding, and told us what needed fixing. It was an education watching him work through the possible causes. We learned a lot about how damp behaves in older properties and feel much more confident about looking after the house going forward. In the end, Simon saved us a significant amount of money by helping us avoid unnecessary work. Because he's independent, we felt we could trust his advice. In contrast, the other companies seemed focused on selling their own services. I would highly recommend Simon to anyone trying to get to the bottom of a damp problem rather than just being sold a treatment.

Professional, methodical, and educational
I contacted Simon at Damp Surveys Ltd to investigate some damp patches that had appeared in various locations above the skirting boards on my ground floor. From start to finish, the approach was very thorough and scientific. Rather than jumping to conclusions, a full systematic check was carried out. This included testing the water mains to completely rule out a hidden mains leak, alongside a detailed assessment of our ventilation system. What I appreciated most was the educational aspect of the service; I was given a clear explanation of how to use data sensors for ongoing monitoring and provided with detailed, actionable feedback. They also suggested a clear roadmap for follow-up investigations. The publicly available ai tools are also very useful.

Thorough and clear advice
Simon came to survey our house a week ago, after three other professionals had tried to find the issues without success. We knew immediately that Simon was knowledgable, experienced and practical. He asked us lots of questions to explore all possible causes of our damp issues (wet rot), and has given us clear advice on how to resolve the issues. We are so pleased we opted to book in Simon - we also liked his approach of sharing knowledge and avoiding costly and unnecessary works that are often recommended. The AI tool on his website was actually great too - it gave an initial diagnosis which Simon confirmed in person and gave the follow up advice and assessment. Would highly recommend.

Damp Surveys Review
Simon was friendly and thorough. He gave my wife and I ample space to explain our concerns regarding possible damp issues in our house. He dilgently investigated all possible causes of the problems, and took plenty of time at the end of the visit to relay his findings and, most importantly, to explain what steps we needed to take next in order to reduce the risk of further damp related problems in the future. He followed this up with an equally helpful written report and video. Communication with the Damp Survey's team prior to the visit had also been very good.

Amazing and detailed advice
I moved into a property beset with mould and condensation problems. I had little understanding of the issues and how to solve it. After Simon's visit I have a full understanding and armed with his detailed advice, feel confident to tackle the problem. Simon is punctual, friendly and efficient. He has a wealth of knowledge, which he is keen his clients also understand, so he takes time to explain clearly. He also videos as he works so you can watch again, in case you miss or forget something. He thoroughly investigates each area using meters and thermal imaging, even checking the external walls and my flat roof. The suggestions made were clear, detailed and manageable. The best advice I’ve paid for. Absolutely worth it for his brilliant independent advice and the confidence and understanding I gained, and a clear action plan. Thank you Simon!

Re a Damp Survey
Simon was very professional and polite. Everything was explained to me and solutions offered on the site visit. A hygrometer was left in situ for me to report the readings back. It was not a leaking pipe like I thought it might be. I was informed by a few friends that it may not be rising damp and that if I asked for 3 quotes, which I was going to do, they would all probably give me a quote for work that I may not need. As it happens I do not need that work and am taking measures to keep the situation in check. I am so grateful to have found Simon.

Very Highly Recommend Independent Damp Surveyor
We instructed Simon to carry out a general survey to check for any possible damp as we were going to have a decoration planned . It was a seamless process to make an appointment and Simon arrived on time and communication was spot on. Simon explained to us the process of his survey and used various tools during his survey and was also providing us with simple reasons for eg.moisture reading , cold surface walls by using his tools. The survey was not rushed and Simon was very diligent and did not leave any area of the property un inspected ( internal and external) He is an independent surveyor and has various YouTube videos and is evident that his survey was very honest and thorough. He provided us with a very cost effective and sensible assessment and remidial measure to implement. We were very pleased by his survey and reccomended him without any hesitation.-Thank you

‘Damp Surveys’ an Edwardian terrace
Simon arrived at the specified time and did a thorough and professional investigation into our concerns re: damp in the ground floor of our house. During the survey Simon explained carefully the problems that we needed to address and how to proceed. At all times, he was polite, friendly and engendered confidence. His feedback was prompt and immensely helpful; what we thought was rising damp is, in fact, much less costly. We are starting to implement his recommendations and are glad to have procured his services.

Damp survey guru
I can highly recommend Damp Surveys Ltd and Simon. His knowledge and expertise were just what I needed to diagnose the causes of penetrating damp in my Victorian terrace. His thoroughness and clarity mean that I feel confident in the courses of action I can take - including different options for short to longer term damp protection and future prevention. His approach is comprehensive, looking at all instances and evidence of damp around the building. Simon provided a video recording and detailed summary of the survey, with clear explanations and recommendations. As Simon operates independently and does not sell any other services, I felt that his advice and recommendations are completely impartial. Thank you, Simon!

Very pleased
We contacted Simon after receiving a quote from a contractor for £6000 to carry out roof repairs to remedy a damp issue. Simon carried out a full, thorough survey of the house, was able to identify the actual cause of the problem, determine no building work was required and recommend various other methods to not only clear this up but deal with any damp issues in the future. We're already noticing results a few weeks later, cannot recommend highly enough.

Unhelpful
Found it impossible to contact this company by phone despite their listing a business telephone number and working hours. Requested a survey via their online form, only to be sent a cool brief email informing the surveyor is working outside of London and they cannot help. No we are booked until such a time with offering a booking at a later date etc, just a flat “computer says no… Goodbye!” attitude basically. Surely they shouldn’t be advertising if they are unable to accept any bookings at this time?

An independent expert with advice well worth paying for
We have a few patches of what appear to be damp. Previously I have asked advice from builders, all of whom have come up with different ideas and have suggested different costly solutions. Given that none of them have agreed on a diagnosis or solution, I decided to seek the advice of an expert, and to pay for a damp survey from Damp Surveys Ltd, reasoning that the fee was a good investment in relation to the amount I might otherwise pay on a "repair" that was of no use. Simon visited, conducted a careful investigation of the house, interested not only the state of the walls but also our use of the property - do we use the extractor fan when cooking, how do we dry clothes, etc. Afterwards, he sent a long and detailed report, with recommendations which focused not on costly building work, but on ventilation and condensation. Yes, we're going to install new extractor fans and buy some dehumidifiers, and yes we intend to be more careful about how we dry clothes etc. But these costs are minor compared to the amounts we might have ended up paying. We feel this damp survey was a really good investment in the maintenance of our property, and it has set our minds at ease.

Damp survey
Having spent several thousands on repointing an external wall to solve what seemed to be an invasive damp problem for it only to return we contacted Simon via Which Trusted traders . It has proved to be the best decision as he diagnosed the problem almost immediately and saved us a considerable amount of money and building upheaval. His service was thorough, informative and understandable. He followed up with video and written reports outlining the measures to deal with the issue. Highly recommend.

Very thorough and informative survey
Sometime before the appointment Simon advised me to purchase some data loggers (~£20 for 3) and where to place them. On the day, he explained exactly what he was doing and how and why. I have to say I found this most interesting and instructive. The main culprit was eventually identified as a very slight leek from the main stopcock which was over 70 years old and very hard to turn off/on. Data from the three loggers was uploaded to Simon for further analysis and his final report. He also suggested advising Thames Water to check their valve in the street as it wouldn't turn a full 90 degrees to turn off the supply. Simon's very professional and friendly survey took about 90 minutes. The stopcock has now been repaired.

Excellent service and expertise
In retrospect one of the best decisions I have made. My house has had trouble with internal damp and we were concerned the issue was serious. I looked around and rapidly came to the decision that getting the problem properly examined would save time and money. I could not have been more pleased with the expertise and professionalism of Simon. There was no guessing and his data driven, scientific approach was exactly what I had hoped for. It meant that if the problems had been more serious I would have known what the solution was rather than spending money and time on unnecessary work. The peace of mind we have received from his report has been immeasurable. I would recommend this service.

An excellent company.
Having had extensive roofing work done in the summer, as I was advised to do, to fix a leak coming through the ceiling of an upstairs room, I was aghast to see that the leak had reappeared a little while later, just after I had the room redecorated ! Thus it was a relief to find Simon, of Damp Surveys Ltd, an independent surveyor specialising in finding the causes of damp in buildings, to give me a professional and unbiased opinion as to the source of my problem. Arriving exactly at the time agreed, I was impressed by the detailed care Simon took in examining the area both inside and out, and by his questions to elicit all possible relevant details. By the end of his visit he was able to collate all the evidence and give me an immediate first assessment which was both helpful and reassuring. This was followed up a short time later by a written and video report, and by constructive proposals for remedying the situation. I found the visit and subsequent report to be extremely worthwhile, and have already recommended Damp Surveys to a friend. Simon is an impressive person, both in his extensive knowledge of his speciality, and in his kindness and desire to help his clients as much as possible.

Damp survey
I had discovered mould in a bedroom in my ground floor flat. It appeared initially just above the skirting boards but was clearly worsening and spreading upwards. After initially searching for specialist builders and damp proofing companies I found details and excellent reviews for Damp Surveys, and arranged a site visit and survey. The survey was done to the agreed schedule and budget. Simon arrived on time (to the minute!), and was careful, considerate and helpful throughout the visit. He went above and beyond what I'd expected, fixing a couple of problems there and then. Communication was clear and consistent prior to the visit, during the visit and afterwards. Emails were answered promptly. With the help, advice and very detailed report I received, I'm able to manage the situation myself and currently have no signs of damp or mould at all. I don't need the services of a builder or damp proofing contractor. It's difficult to calculate how much money I've saved (my guess is a LOT) because I didn't get as far as seeking quotations, but I consider the Damp Surveys fees excellent value for money – an investment even.

Outstanding service
Simon provided a very prompt and detailed assessment of our damp wall (house bombed during the war). After having spent many months trying to figure out the cause of our damp and receiving various quotes for works to be carried out it was great to finally find someone who was independent and had the extensive required to identify the root causes of our problem. Simon has likely saved us tens of thousands of pounds and we are so glad to have found him!

Damp survey to help find cause of smell
We'd already had another company give a damp survey at our property and was told it's rising and penetrating damp all over the place, but with no other details when asked 'why?' We decided to get a 2nd opinion with Simon before spending £5k. Prior to his visit we installed sensors as requested and then Simon came and gave a thorough inspection of the property. He was able to identify a few areas we could remedy quickly (condensation on pipes / cracks in tiles etc) as well as identifying the root cause of the penetrating damp (crack in render). We haven't completely solved the smell, but doing the work we were suggested by the other company wouldn't have either. Would definitely recommend!
